You-Pick Flowers!

Sunflowers at Flying Cloud Farm

Nothing says summer quite like a You-Pick Flower Farm, so I was thrilled to see Flying Cloud Farm’s Instagram post announcing that their flower fields were open for business! We are lucky to live in a region rich with farm-to-table resources and Flying Cloud Farm has always been one of our favorites!

The farm sits in a beautiful valley and is run by Isaiah and Annie Louise Perkinson, whose family has been part of the local farming community for generations.  We have been visiting the farm for years now. When my kids were young, it was our go-to for organic, you-pick strawberries. They also offer a sweet little self-serve stand that is open from April-December. The stand always has something delightful to offer.

I think one of my favorite things about the stand–besides the amazing produce, of course–is the fact that it is run on the honor system. How sweet is that?  I love that Annie and Isaih offer their harvest in this open and trusting way.  It feels like such a privilege and truly such an honor to be part of that trust.  That must be why they call it an honor system?  I just love being a part of that kind of good-faith exchange.

The You-Pick Flower Stand is run the same way the produce stand is. You simply measure the size of your bouquet, determine the price and pay at the stand. It was a gorgeous morning and the flowers were plentiful.  There were cornflowers, sunflowers, larkspur, mist flower, amaranth and ammi to name a few.  We had such fun wandering the fields and discovering all the varieties that were there–it was like a treasure hunt!

After gathering the flowers, we stopped by the stand to pay–and get some fresh produce as well.  The blueberries were in, so that was a must! When it was all said and done, we ended up with quite the bountiful harvest! That night for dinner, we had a farmhouse dinner complete with the most delicious blueberry cobbler ever! We plan to make regular trips to Flying Cloud throughout the summer for more flowers and delicious produce.

A Bountiful Harvest
